What is Kybella and Mesotherapy for double chin treatment?
As we age, we lose skin elasticity, and fat redistributes towards gravity. One place this occurs is beneath the chin, also known as submental fat (double chin). If you are genetically predisposed or have had this fat area develop with age, no amount of exercise and diet can fix this problem. Submental fat creates a facial profile that looks less youthful.
A recent option outside of liposuction is an injectable called Kybella, FDA approved for submental fullness (double chin). With a few superficial injections to the area over the course of several months, Kybella can offer a permanent fat busting option with realistic expectations.
Kybella is chemically composed of Deoxycholic Acid. Naturally found in the body, deoxycholic acid’s purpose is to break down dietary fat. When injected into target areas, Kybella speeds up the body’s process of breaking down fat stores.

How It Works
The treatment area is numbed with a topical anesthetic, cleaned, mapped, and then several superficial injections are applied. Post-treatment, the area is iced down.
What to Expect
The procedure can take 30-60 minutes with minimal pain. Moderate swelling and pain will be noted for 7 days as fat decomposes. Fat breakdown takes several weeks before treatments show noticeable results. A treatment plan will be individually tailored, but expect 3 – 6 treatments, every 4 – 6 weeks, with optimal results in 12 total weeks.
Treatment Cycle 1
- Day 1 – 2: significant soreness
- Day 3 – 7: moderate swelling with bullfrog effect
- Week 2 – 4: mild swelling, numbness, and bruising
- Week 4 – 6: numbness resolved, double chin still present

- a slight reduction in above symptoms
- minimal improvement of a double chin
Treatment Cycle 3 – 6
- with less fat to destroy, symptoms improve on successive cycles
